Why pay to replace?

Have you ever had a strong opinion and really want to share it? You can post it online, but it will either quickly get buried under a mountain of other posts, or if it's controversial, it will be downvoted and removed.

On paytoreplace, yours is the only message displayed, and it will remain indefinitely until someone pays to replace it.

Justification for Existence

Admittedly, this approach is potentially problematic. It could amplify voices purely based on ability to pay, rather than the community agreed-upon best ideas that bubble to the top of forums like reddit. It might spread misinformation, show messages that are unkind and offensive, be used to subvert, misinform, etc. So yes, paytoreplace is an experiment. But it is an experiment in free speech (rather, paid speech), allowing controversial or offensive views.

Price Calculation

As soon as someone posts a new message the price to replace it immediately doubles (this is to prevent quickly rotating messages.) It then starts dropping down to $1 steadily over 24 hours.

Content Policy

PayToReplace allows all types of speech, whether controversial or offensive, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF:

Child sexual abuse material, terrorist propaganda, direct violent threats, non-consensual intimate content (revenge porn), doxxing, hate speech calling for violence, targeted harassment encouraging self-harm, defamation, attempts at hacking, harmful medical/civic misinformation, and fraudulent scams.

If the message breaks any of these rules, it will be removed immediately without refund. These restrictions exist because such content is either illegal, poses serious safety risks, or creates legal liability for the platform. All other content is permitted, even if controversial or offensive.
